Social Work

I believe that as a professional, you need to practice, you need to research your practice, and you need to educate others in your practice and help them become a professional. I have a great job; I can do all those things.

Throughout my time here at Kingston and St George’s, both myself and my colleagues often comment on the great feedback that we get from our students. For me, because I tend to work with people who are doing post qualifying courses and then continuing in their careers, I can be working with people over quite a long journey. Over time, I get cards that tell me where people have ended up, and I think it’s very touching that they think back to their university and make the effort to tell us, ‘You were someone who helped me take big steps along the way’. As an educator, I think you have a great privilege in that you’re able to be part of a professional journey with a lot of people, and that you may have the opp to help them develop an approach to practice, and it’s a privilege to travel on that journey. When people tell you where they got to, that’s definitely a career highlight.
