Jessica Johnson Jessica Johnson Early Years My interest in early years education started as a children’s nurse with very young babies who were critically ill, who had so much resilience and yet desire to live and build relationships, and so I’ve had an ongoing interest across a whole range of professions. I’ve had a long professional career now in finding out how children do learn and develop, and so I’ve come into academia since 1993 when I was involved in a research project on preventing and responding to bullying in schools. That’s led to my curiosity in how we can nurture positive and trusting relationships from as early an age as possible – that’s why I’m here and continually learning, and hoping to share my learning with others. The most memorable feedback early years tutors here usually receive is from students who say “Wow, I never thought I could do this, I was told I was rubbish at school and I came into childcare, and now I have a degree, or I’m a professional, or a teacher – how did I get here? I got here because of you, the teaching team, that has supported me and encouraged me on a journey I never thought I’d do”, and that is fantastic.
