Practice education stage 2 Apply Practice education stage 2 Students who complete this module successfully will be able to supervise, teach and assess social work degree students up to and including the last placement and to work with assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) candidates. In effect, these practice educators will have the authority and capability to recommend, on the basis of appropriate evidence, that the social work students are fit to practise at the point of qualification. Students undertaking this module are required to undertake a practicum which entails acting as a stage 2 practice educator to a degree in social work student on a final placement (100 days). The module includes practice assessment and is for practitioners at experienced social worker level. A Postgraduate Certificate in Practice Education can be awarded if this module is studied together with Practice education stage 1. Learning outcomes: Manage effectively the provision of a final practice placement for a degree in social work student and evidence purposeful contributions to the quality assurance of placement learning, the development of an agency as a training organisation by reviewing and improving provision (PEPS Domain A: Stage 2 requirements). Enable learning and professional development in practice and apply a range of supervisory models, roles and skills which recognize different learning styles and strategies and the power dynamics between the practice educator and the learner (PEPS Domain B: Stage 2 requirements). Demonstrate an ability to transfer practice educator skills, knowledge and values to new roles in mentoring, supervision, teaching and /or assessment (PEPS Domain D: Stage 2 requirements). Manage the holistic assessment of learners in practice and demonstrate ability to make difficult holistic assessment decisions which may include marginal or failing students; mark learners’ academic work and utilise a range of assessment methods (PEPS Domain C: Stage 2 requirements). Discuss critically their own values, attitudes and practice in relation to ethical practice in professional practice education in social work and show enhanced understanding of the origins and implications of discrimination and power relationships. (PEPS Values requirements). Reflect critically and analyse their own progress as a practitioner and social work practice educator and analyse and evaluate research, policies and developments with respect to social work and practice education and develop their continuing professional development plan (PEPS Domain D: Stage 2 requirements). Who is the module for? Registered social workers with three years or more post-registration practice experience and who have completed the Practice education stage 1 or equivalent course.
