Study day: Creating a safe environment for patients in crisis

This two day package will enable students to develop knowledge skills and confidence to assess and manage psychological distress for patients in crisis. This will build on existing competencies and interpersonal skills through interactive and experiential learning.

  • interventions to address challenging behaviour and defuse tension
  • Experiential exercises

At the end of the course the attendees should:

  • Develop knowledge of presentation of psychological distress
  • Assess (including risk) and recognize deterioration of mental health
  • Develop strategies for effective communication
  • Intervene to minimise challenging behaviour
