Study day: Dementia care for healthcare assistants

The aim of this study day is to provide an increased awareness of dementia and delirium and to increase practitioner confidence in responding effectively to individuals and families affected.

At the end of the study day the students will be able to:

  1. Understand the nature of dementia and its common effects on individuals
  2. Understand the differences between dementia and delirium
  3. Demonstrate the key principles for effective communication with people with dementia or those with confusion
  4. Identify key factors that can cause emotional distress for people with dementia
  5. Develop responses to prevent and reduce incidences of distress.
