Study day: ECGs for healthcare assistants

Recording an accurate 12 Lead ECG

Participants will be able to:

  • Develop their knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart
  • Understand the role of the conduction system in the cardiac cycle
  • Take a radial pulse and recognise an abnormal pulse
  • Develop an awareness of the principles of electrocardiography
  • Record a 12 lead ECG accurately and learn how to troubleshoot
  • Use a tool to systematically analyse cardiac rhythms
  • Identify normal sinus rhythm and abnormal heart rhythm
  • Understand the importance of the ECG in diagnosing patients with chest pain

Participants will be given a competency framework to complete with their nurse mentor.

Please come dressed suitable for a clinical skills workshop, hair tied back, short nails, no nail varnish or jewellery, closed shoes.
