Dear colleague,
Welcome to the March issue of CPPD: What's New - outlining the latest news, courses and services offered by the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences.
In this issue Faculty Dean, Fiona Ross shares her thoughts on why the cuts in training places for nursing may have a negative impact on patient outcomes for the future, particularly for older people. You can also read about our featured course Introduction to practice nursing as well as finding out how to register for one of our postgraduate open evenings.
As always, we welcome your feedback. We are particularly interested in your views on our new CPPD prospectus. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement please email us at cpdpo@sgul.kingston.ac.uk
We look forward to seeing you at the Faculty in the weeks ahead.
Best wishes,
The CPD team | |
Why do cuts in training places for nursing matter? Professor Fiona Ross gives her views
“Everyone has a view about nursing - it has lost its way, it is too academic, nurses have the wrong attitude and lack compassion. Many argue that nurses do not need degrees and that universities are responsible for producing nurses
'not fit for purpose'.
“These opinions are often based on a nostalgic view of the past that does not take account of the contemporary context of healthcare, the need for thinking, as well as respectful, practitioners or the partnership model used by the NHS to commission educational programmes from universities.”
