New national professional development scholarship scheme for teachers launched

A new national scholarship scheme has been launched to support professional development for teachers. The scheme is funded by the Department for Education and will be administered by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

The aims of the scholarship scheme are to:

  • Encourage serving teachers to pursue knowledge independently to masters-level and beyond
  • Make it easier for teachers to access masters-level continuing professional development (CPD) in their chosen subject area or to access expert seminars
  • Bring about a culture change to create expectations within the sector about the importance of scholarship throughout a teacher’s career
  • Share learning, knowledge and expertise across the school system

More information is available about this scholarship programme on our Continuing personal and professional development (CPPD) page.

Applications to the scheme will open in June 2011 and will close by the end of September 2011.
