Children spot a good nurse
The masters research of Faculty senior lecturer Mary Brady was recently highlighted in the April 2008 edition of the Nursing Times
The study asked 22 children aged between seven and twelve to draw and describe the qualities of a ‘good’ nurse. Of those mentioned, communication, knowledge, safety consciousness, trustworthiness, humour, and professional, personal and ethical qualities rated highest.
Mary commented: “This study highlighted the importance of the nurse having an understanding of the needs of children, and that the child’s level of insight was related to his or her stage of moral development.”
