Senior lecturer awarded title of Queen's Nurse

Paul CornforthPaul Cornforth, a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences and Consultant Nurse in Unscheduled Care at Tooting NHS Walk-In Centre, has achieved the prestigious title of Queen's Nurse from community nursing charity The Queen's Nursing Institute (QNI).

Paul is one of just six nurses nationwide to receive the title during the final round of 2008. He completed a rigorous application process, and feedback was also provided by peers and patients. He will be formally presented with a certificate at a ceremony in central London in May 2009.

The Queen's Nurse title is not an award for past service but indicates a commitment to high standards of patient care and continually improving practice. The title aims to strengthen professional identity among community nurses. Nurses who hold the title also benefit from leadership development and networking opportunities.

Paul said, "I am delighted to receive the Queen's Nurse title and look forward to working with the QNI in promoting the best in community nursing for the benefit of our patients."

Di Caulfeild-Stoker, Director of Provider Services at Wandsworth Teaching Primary Care Trust said, "We're extremely proud to have a Queen's Nurse working as part of our community nursing team and were happy to congratulate Paul on this prestigious achievement when we heard the news."

QNI Director Rosemary Cook CBE added, "Congratulations are due to Paul for his success. Community nurses operate in an ever more challenging world and our role is to support them as effectively as we can. The Queen's Nurse title is a key part of this and we would encourage other community nurses to apply."
