Faculty launches new MSc Exercise for Health

The Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences has developed a new MSc Exercise for Health designed to bridge the gap between sport science, health professionals and the general population.

Exercise for health has recently received considerable government and media attention, particularly in response to the emerging concerns regarding the escalating national rates of obesity and its effects. In addition, the interest in the sports sciences generated by the successful London bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, and concerns regarding the impact of lifestyle on wellbeing, have reinforced the need for more experts within the field.

This masters course is designed to address these key current issues, not just to ‘patch up’ but to help change social perceptions and develop and deliver policy relating to the underlying theme of prevention rather than cure. Suitable for any professional with an interest in exercise, the modules incorporate social marketing and policy issues in a multidisciplinary and holistic fashion, with strong emphasis on exercise physiology and psychology.

The course will equip participants with the tools to become proactive in change, and to be actively part of a healthy future. The first group of students will enrol in September 2008.
