Faculty lecturer awarded new NIHR clinical lectureship

Gita Ramdharry, a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences’ School of Physiotherapy, has been awarded a CAT (Clinical Academic Training) clinical lectureship by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). Only ten such awards have been made nationally.

The awards are part of a major new initiative established by the NIHR and the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for England, in collaboration with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), to boost clinical academic careers for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.

The clinical lectureship posts are designed to support postdoctoral staff in developing a research career in clinical practice, by providing research training combined with the continuing development of clinical expertise.

Gita will be funded for three days a week to undertake clinical research and practice at the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. She will work on a programme focused on characterising the nature of falls and balance impairments in people with neuromuscular disease.

“I’m very excited and grateful to be given this opportunity to continue with clinically relevant research that aims to improve the function and daily life of this under-researched group of people”, said Gita.
