New partnership with world renowned centre for cancer care
The Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences has been selected to develop a new academic partnership with The Royal Marsden School of Cancer Nursing and Rehabilitation
.
The partnership, which will begin in August 2010, means the Faculty will validate programmes offered at The School as well as working collaboratively to develop innovative cancer education programmes, research and multi-professional opportunities, building on the Faculty’s success in this area.
Work will soon begin designing the new programmes that will be available at The Royal Marsden.
Exciting development
Professor Fiona Ross, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, welcomed the announcement. She said: “We are thrilled to have been selected to work with The Royal Marsden, which is of course a world renowned centre for cancer care and runs high quality courses for nurses and allied health professionals. We are looking forward to working closely with colleagues at The Royal Marsden and sharing good practice on educational innovations.”
Sara Lister, Assistant Chief Nurse/Head of School based at The Royal Marsden Hospital’s Chelsea site, said: “This is a very exciting development for both organisations. We see this as an exceptional opportunity to work in partnership to develop further the courses within The School and continue to offer education which supports cancer care professionals in meeting the needs of patients.”
Working together
The Faculty already has long-standing links with The Royal Marsden, with many students on pre-registration nursing courses completing placements at the hospital as part of their training.
Kingston University and St George’s, University of London also undertake some joint research activity with The Royal Marsden.
