Nursing and Midwifery Council commends 'outstanding' Faculty practice learning
The Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences has achieved excellent results in a recent review of its nursing and midwifery programmes by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Five areas were examined: admissions and progression, practice learning, fitness for practice, resources and quality assurance. The possible outcomes were: outstanding, good, satisfactory or unsatisfactory.
The Faculty's programmes achieved a rating of 'good' across four of the five areas, and 'outstanding' for practice learning.
An 'outstanding' rating indicates exceptional and consistently high performance in areas such as practice placements, mentorship while on placement and the quality of mentor assessment of student competence. It also includes the quality and effectiveness of local partnerships with healthcare providers, and the involvement of healthcare service users in programme development and delivery.
About the NMC's quality assurance of education
The NMC works closely with partner organisations to provide quality assurance of nursing and midwifery education throughout the UK. All programmes that lead to registration or recording on the NMC register undergo an annual monitoring process. For more information visit the NMC website.
