New programme poised to boost continuing professional development

The Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences has launched its new continuing professional development (CPD) programme.

The portfolio of courses, which runs until 2011, is a brand new provision featuring contemporary products and learning opportunities which take account of rapid changes across the sector. Dr Julia Gale, Head of Undergraduate Continuing Professional Development in the Faculty, said it is now more important than ever for practitioners to be able to adapt to innovations in technology, an increased emphasis on personalised care and evolving job roles.

The programme offers a range of courses, modules and study days and provides a flexible approach to learning. Full-time, part-time, distance and work-based learning options are available and courses are suitable for nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and social workers based in both the government/public and independent sectors.

The programme also features an increased emphasis on preparing practitioners to take on more senior management roles, equipping them with the enhanced skills needed to deliver world class health and social care services. Students will learn not only how to improve service delivery but also acquire the in-depth knowledge needed to underpin recommendations about how services can be developed further.

The Faculty has worked closely with commissioners from NHS London, local NHS Trusts, Social Services, independent bodies and service users to ensure learning opportunities are tailored to needs right across the sector, Dr Gale said. “We are committed to providing high quality education for all our students and to supporting evidence-based practice and change,” she added. “Our new courses will provide a positive learning experience, building confidence and creating opportunities in what are exciting and dynamic times in health and social care.”
