Workforce Innovation, Development and Education Research Group
About the group
The people working in any health and social care service are its greatest resource. This research group addresses a broad range of workforce questions including how best to educate and train people for their current and future work in health and social care.
What factors influence the recruitment and retention of staff in different types of service? What is the impact of different configurations of disciplines and differently skilled staff on the service, how the care is delivered and the patient/service user experience? How can health and social care staff be best supported and deployed in times of austerity?
The history of health and social care professions and practice
In addition, the group seeks to explore a historical perspective in understanding present workforce developments. A number of projects have investigated the history of the health and social care professions and professional practice in the UK, including:
- Nurses' lives, a series of projects designed to capture the oral history of three prestigious London hospitals from the perspective of its nurses.
- The International Nursing History Conference 2010, one of the largest international conferences on the history of nursing which aimed to showcase innovative and scholarly work on nursing history.
