Biography

Dimitra is a senior lecturer in rehabilitation. She originally trained as a physiotherapist and worked in various teaching hospitals in Greece, Scotland, North England and London. Her interest in research led her to pursue a masters in bioengineering (University of Strathclyde) and to work as a research physiotherapist at King’s College Hospital for a year. She then went on to study a PhD in respiratory medicine (King’s College London) and completed her thesis titled ‘Respiratory muscle endurance, fatigue and training in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)’ in 2010. Dimitra is currently researching methods to enhance the benefits of exercise in overweight and obese adults and in people with COPD.

Dimitra joined the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences in 2003 and has gained extensive experience as a lecturer in respiratory care in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She is currently leading the pulmonary rehabilitation module (MSc in Rehabilitation) and supervising research students in the MRes and MSc Exercise for Health programmes.

Dimitra is a reviewer for the Physiotherapy Research International and has previously reviewed articles for the European Respiratory Journal and the Journal of COPD.
