Biography
Gill Mein is a senior research fellow working in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences. Prior to this she was responsible for the retirement project within the Whitehall II study.
She obtained an MSc in 1993 from the Department of Public Health and Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and following this worked as a research fellow in the Health Promotion Research Unit at the London School of Hygiene. Prior to obtaining her MSc she worked overseas for non-governmental organisations in primary health care development projects and on emergency health care programmes.
She currently teaches on the MSc in Rehabilitation and the undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy. She is also a senior facilitator for Teens and Toddlers, a successful organisation working with teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds and preventing teenage pregnancies.
Interests
Gill's current research is examining the effect of physical activity on cancer patients. She has examined the benefits of rehabilitation with patients suffering Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease. She is also evaluating a project preventing teenage pregnancies. Previous ongoing work from the Whitehall II study is examining retirement from work and health inequalities and participant participation in longitudinal studies.
