Biography
Gillian trained as a nutritionist at King’s College, London and at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In 2005 she was awarded a PhD from the University of Westminster for a thesis entitled ‘Improving the health, nutrition and quality of life of elderly Guyanese living in residential homes’. This research investigated the process and outcomes of adopting a participatory approach to improve food, health and quality of life in homes for older people in developing countries.
Before joining the Faculty, Gillian held a number of short-term research posts in the Centre for Public Health Nutrition at the University of Westminster, and worked in the nutrition division of the Food Standards Agency.
Gillian is currently working on a National Institute for Health Research funded project investigating interprofessional team working in the context of stroke.
Interests
Professional team working in health and social care; evaluation of public health interventions using qualitative and mixed methods; process evaluations; nutrition and care of older people.
