Biography
Gillian is a registered nurse (adult nursing). She specialised as a neurosciences nurse, has worked with the elderly and as a research nurse. She is currently a principal lecturer within the Acute Care Division of the School of Nursing.
Gillian’s main teaching and research interests are in the area of chronic wound prevention and management. She runs modules in leg ulcer management and in the prevention and management of pressure ulceration, and is pathway leader for the Tissue Viability Pathway within the undergraduate CPD Diploma / BSc healthcare programmes.
Her research activities are in the area of pressure ulceration, in particular risk assessment, and she is currently conducting research into the predictors of pressure ulceration in elderly orthopaedic patients. She also is a reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Nursing.
Interests
Tissue viability and chronic wounds, particularly pressure ulcer prevention and risk assessment; dementia care.
