Biography
Gita completed a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy at the University of East London in 1995. She worked as a clinical physiotherapist at various London teaching hospitals, specialising in neurology in 1997. Gita completed an MSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Brighton in 2004 and went on to pursue a PhD in neurological studies at University College London that same year. She completed her thesis entitled 'Compensatory strategies while walking in people with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease: Impact and intervention' in 2008.
In 2007, Gita joined the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences as a senior lecturer in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. While working in this role, Gita has maintained collaborations with UCL’s MRC Centre for Neurological Diseases and contributed to rehabilitation trials. She was awarded an NIHR post-doctoral clinical research fellowship in 2010 for research at the MRC centre and splits her time between the two institutions. Gita currently supervises MRes and MSc student research and co-supervises a PhD student at Kingston University.
Gita is the vice-chair of the executive committee of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology and is a hub facilitator for the London branch of the National Physiotherapy Research Network. She is also one of the professional advisors to the CMTUK patient support group, speaking regularly at conferences and meetings. Gita is a member of the Neuromuscular Physiotherapist Network. Gits is also a reviewer for the Cochrane Neuromuscular Disease Group, Physiotherapy Research International, American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Multiple Sclerosis.
