Biography
Maria is a registered nurse and midwife as well as health psychologist. In the past, she has worked as ITU nurse and a night sister as well as hospital and community midwife. Currently Maria is a principal lecturer and MSc course director at the school of nursing and a visiting professor to Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences in Finland. Maria teaches applied psychology to students of nursing, radiography, midwifery and physiotherapy.
In 2005, Maria was successful in winning a bid for £69,000 from the British Council for a Bridge 1 Project. There were only seven projects awarded nationally, and only one involving healthcare. The project involved writing a curriculum for an MSc in Healthcare Education and Management course. Since successful validation in St Petersburg, Russia in September 2006 there are now two courses running, one at Kingston University and one in Pavlov State Medical University, St Petersburg, Russia with 20 students enrolled on both courses.
Maria has given a series of lectures to international social work and nursing students in Kemi, Finland, Poland and Russia which include the following:

Working closely with the staff from Kemi-Tornio University and their collaborators, Maria is now writing a bid for joint research under Framework Programme 7 to EU. The aim is to research the experience of older people in the seven countries involved, in order to improve the quality of life of this age group.
Interests
Interested in research in Locus of control, learning styles, personality, stress, stroke, diabetes as well as psychological aspects of oncology.
