Biography

Sian has worked in the voluntary sector for seven years in various service delivery and research roles. This has included developing and managing a nationwide refugee mentoring programme to support the integration of refugees in the UK, providing advice and support to women experiencing domestic violence on the National Domestic Violence Helpline and research and evaluation projects, such as the evaluation of UnLtd’s Big Challenge programme which supported young social entrepreneurs across the UK to make a difference in their community.

She is currently based at Victim Support working as a Qualitative Researcher on a research project investigating victimisation among people with mental health problems and the barriers and facilitators they face to reporting crime and accessing justice. This project will be running for two years, is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and is a collaboration between a number of academic institutions and voluntary sector organisations: Victim Support, Mind, St George’s University of London and Kingston University, the Institute of Psychiatry and University College London.

Sian is working alongside Professor Vari Drennan on this project.

Interests

Victimisation among individuals with mental health problems and the barriers they face to accessing justice; refugee integration in the UK; evaluation of third sector social inclusion initiatives, particularly in relation to mentoring initiatives and social enterprise.
