Biography

Vivienne is a qualified social worker and practised as a generic worker before specialising in social work with children and families. She also worked as an Approved Social Worker in mental health, a practice teacher and later as a manager in local authority children’s services. Vivienne taught at Coventry University before moving to the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences in late 2007. Her responsibilities have included course leader and admissions tutor on the BA Honours Social Work programme, teaching in social work with children, research and management and inter-professional teaching.

Vivienne has undertaken research in child protection and with children looked after, with particular focus on leaving care transitions and advocacy. She has recently completed a PhD at the University of Warwick focussing on dilemmas in advocacy and social work with looked after children. She is currently involved in research in inter-professional ethics with children and young people in a London borough.

Vivienne’s current responsibilities as a senior lecturer at the Faculty include the Professional Child and Family Studies Programme and teaching in children’s social work and research on the BA and MA Social Work programmes.

Safeguarding children and children looked after; advocacy; ethics of care; inter-professional ethics; feminist theory and research; service user involvement in research.
