Centre for Paramedic Science

The Centre for Paramedic Science aims to support the development of the paramedic profession in the UK and overseas by bringing together the latest knowledge from education, research and practice.

We specialise in delivering employer-led education and training using the latest learning technologies, while also providing a 'hub' for research and international development projects.

We work collaboratively with employers, such as the London Ambulance Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service, to ensure that our courses are directly relevant to the realities of practice.

Why study with us?

Opening doors

With a degree in paramedic science you will be eligible to register with the Health Professions Council, which will allow you to practice in the UK. Graduates are also eligible for full membership of the College of Paramedics, the UK professional body.

Supporting you all the way

Paramedic science is academically and personally demanding. We want our students to succeed, so we provide the support you need to do just that. Rely on our personal tutors, supervisors and mentors to guide you through your studies and help you reach your full potential.

Learn from the experts...

Our top teaching team combines academic staff who are qualified paramedics in touch with the latest healthcare developments, lecturer-practitioners who split their time between teaching and working in clinical practice, and visiting clinical specialists.

..with a variety of innovative teaching methods

People enjoy learning in different ways. We offer a range of approaches combining lectures, practical sessions, self-directed study and online learning - including our award winning Second Life initiative that trains paramedics in a virtual world.

Committed to research and development

As well as offering courses, our Centre for Paramedic Science also provides a hub for research and development projects in the UK and internationally. For example, we are currently working with colleagues in Gibraltar to deliver a certificate for pre-hospital care for ambulance service staff.

A vibrant learning environment

You'll have opportunities to meet, learn and socialise with other students from across healthcare, medicine, the sciences and social sciences, preparing you to work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals.

Get out more

Outside the classroom our students have a wide choice of social facilities with our two parent universities (Kingston and St George's), which are especially strong in sport, theatre and music.

But don't just take our word for it, find out what our students say - take a look at a recent diary of a paramedic student.
