What our students say
After graduating with a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy, Faraz Sethi embarked on a much-coveted career in football.
“I graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy from the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, awarded by St George's, University of London, in July 2006.
“I was one of the fortunate graduates who found entry into the private sporting sector. My first role was at Charlton Athletic FC as a part-time academy physiotherapist, helping the younger children. After a year, I was put in contact with Colchester United FC, who interviewed me and offered me a full-time position as a youth team physiotherapist.
“I've now completed three whole seasons at Colchester United FC in an enjoyable yet demanding and pressurised post.
“My daily routine involves assessing, treating, educating and rehabilitating professional footballers who have sustained various injuries. I organise a range of cardiological and orthopaedic screenings for the footballers as well as appointments with other healthcare professionals.
“I've also been fortunate enough to treat some well known names such as Teddy Sheringham, Nolberto (“Nobby”) Solano and Frank Queudrue!
“I've now embarked on an MSc in Football Rehabilitation which will hopefully cement my place in the football environment for the next twenty years. I hope to gain enough experience and a wealth of knowledge to eventually open my own clinical practice.
“If I was to advise others wanting to pursue a career in professional sport, I'd say it's a very demanding occupation, occasionally seven days a week, there are highs and lows, and good times and bad times. You have to be mentally tough enough to ride the storm, stay calm and relaxed, and keep your head above water otherwise you might not survive in this game!”
