Over 200 delegates, employers and publishers attended this year’s Department of Social Work and Social Care Annual Conference at the Kingston Hill campus on World Social Work Day, 21 March 2018.

The main topic of the event, chaired by Professor Malcolm Payne, was ‘Success in Social Work and Social Care’. The conference included a panel discussion with distinguished representatives from the social work field such as Emeritus Professor Dr Ray Jones, Josh Macalister, Chief Executive of Frontline, Nick Whitfield CBE, Chief Executive of Achieving for Children, and Dr Maryam Zonouzi, co-founder of Ginger Giraffe and Research Associate at Kingston and St George’s Centre for Public Engagement.

Wilson Muleya, Head of the Department of Social Work and Social Care, welcomed the delegates to  the annual event celebrating the department’s work, summarising achievements and drawing perspectives in the field.

The chief executive of the British Association of Social Workers, Ruth Allen talked about the history of social work and highlighted why we should celebrate social work success throughout the year. 

The delegates were given the opportunity to attend five workshops discussing topics such as complexity and social work, resilience, attainment gaps in social work education and national and international perspectives on social work education.

Guests included Sage Publications, Jessica Kingsley Publishers, Achieving for Children, Merton Council, Sutton Council, Wandsworth Council and The Challenge.
