Biography

Dimitra joined Kingston & St George's in 2003. After training as a physiotherapist in Athens she worked in various teaching hospitals in Greece, Scotland, northern England and London. Her interest in research led her to pursue a masters in bioengineering at the University of Strathclyde and to work as a research physiotherapist at King's College Hospital before studying for a PhD in respiratory medicine.

Dimitra has extensive experience as a lecturer in cardio-respiratory rehabilitation at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and has supervised various research students. She currently leads the postgraduate modules Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Research Dissertations, as well as the undergraduate module Management Of Complex Cardio-Respiratory Dysfunction. She coordinates the delivery of the CPPD On-Call Update Respiratory Course for qualified physiotherapists, and is personal tutor for a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dimitra's research interests lie in the area of clinical exercise physiology and exercise prescription for people with chronic respiratory conditions and on rehabilitation programmes to improve quality of life, mainly in community.

She is a reviewer for the Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Physiotherapy Research International, and an external examiner for the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy International at the University of East London-Greece.
