Biography

Rick qualified as a social worker in 2007 and has mainly specialised in statutory work with children and families. He has been working full-time at Kingston University since August 2014. Before becoming a social worker, he was employed in the voluntary sector and ran a youth project in Camberwell, South London. Rick's doctoral research was on the topic of complexity and interprofessional working in children's services, and he has published a number of papers on this subject. Rick recently led a research team exploring performance indicators and Ofsted ratings in English child protection services, and also completed an evaluation of Caring Dads, a group intervention programme for fathers who have abused and neglected their children or exposed them to abuse of their mothers. He is currently engaged in an international study of interprofessional expertise in child safeguarding, and of practitioner-service user relationships in social work.

Rick welcomes ideas for collaborative research and PhD applications in areas related to his research interests.
