Job Title: Senior Lecturer
Simon is a senior lecturer in the School of Social Work. He qualified as a social worker thirteen years ago, and has spent his social work career working in statutory mental health services in London.
He has worked in community mental health teams as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), including specialist services for people experiencing psychosis, and as a forensic social worker with West London Forensic Service, working with mentally disordered offenders in regional secure services and in the community.
Simon is still active in front line practice as an Advanced Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional. He is also a Best Interests Assessor under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
Simon's research interest is the relationship between law and social work practice, particularly how social workers use the law in action. He is currently undertaking a doctoral research project looking at how Social Work AMHPs use the law in action.

Simon is currently exploring how Approved Mental Health Professionals use mental health law in action when considering making an application for compulsory admission to a psychiatric hospital.
