Simon is a senior lecturer in the department of social work and social care. He is a member of the Psychological and Cognitive Conditions Research Group in the faculty of Health, Social Care and Education. Simon's research interests involve mental health and wellbeing, social work and social care.

He is registered social worker and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). He has worked in community mental health teams as a social worker Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), including specialist services for people experiencing psychosis, and as a forensic social worker with West London Forensic Service, working with mentally disordered offenders in regional secure services and in the community.
