Biography




Professor Scott Reeves is a social scientist who has been undertaking health professions education and health services research for over 20 years. His main interests are focused on developing conceptual, empirical and theoretical knowledge to inform the design and implementation of interprofessional education and practice activities. To date, he has received grant income from a range of funding bodies across the world. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, textbooks, editorials, commentaries and monographs. Many of his publications have been translated from English into other languages including French, German, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Originally from the UK, Scott has spent a decade in North America, initially in Canada where he was the inaugural Director of Research, Centre for Faculty Development, St Michael's Hospital, Toronto. While in Canada he also held positions as Senior Scientist, Wilson Centre for Research in Education and was Professor of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. In addition, he was appointed the inaugural Evaluation Director, Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative. Moving then to the USA, he was appointed as the Founding Director, Center for Innovation in Interprofessional Education as well as Professor of Social & Behavioral Sciences and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

Scott is currently Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Interprofessional Care, and has made a number of contributions to other journals - guest editing for the BMJ, Journal of Continuing Education for the Health Professions and BMC Medical Education. He worked as an editorial advisor for a series of interprofessional textbooks exploring different elements of interprofessional education and practice for Routledge, UK and also for a series of interprofessional education books for Kyodo Isho Publishers, Japan.

Scott also holds/has held honorary faculty positions in a number of institutions around the world, including, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; Dalhousie University, Canada; Waikato Institute of Technology, New Zealand; Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan; Queen Mary University of London, UK and Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, Canada.

Scott has a long history of national and international committee work, including appointments to the UK Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education; National US Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education, American Interprofessional Health Collaborative and Global Health Professions Education Forum, Institute of Medicine. He also previously worked on committees for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and Association of American Medical Colleges, Canadian Health Services Research Foundation; Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Canada and the Department of Health, UK.

Scott has received a number of awards for his interprofessional teaching and mentorship, including the Interprofessional Education Mentorship Award from the National Health Sciences Student Association, the Ted Freedman Innovation in Education Award from the Ontario Hospital Association, and the Mentorship Award from the Wilson Centre for Research in Education, University of Toronto, Canada.
