Therapeutic radiographers are responsible for the safe and accurate planning and delivery of radiotherapy to patients with cancer. You will gain knowledge of the very latest developments in sophisticated imaging and computer technology to provide care for a range of patients with varying needs.

  • We offer Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Training (VERT) – a unique simulation tool to educate students about the treatment experience of patients undergoing radiotherapy.
  • You will learn about dose mapping, using an up-to-date clinical radiotherapy treatment planning system.
  • We provide a range of opportunities for therapeutic radiographers (or equivalent) by offering modules aimed at developing skills that will help them progress to the level of the advanced practitioner and consultant radiographers.

  • You may enrol on a single module to fulfil Continuous Professional Development (CPD) needs or opt for a final award of PgCert to acquire a set of skills specific to a particular role.

Employment prospects
  • The successful completion of the Practice Education and Mentorship module, which is accredited under the College of Radiographers Practice Educators Accreditation Scheme (PEAS), equips you to teach in the workplace.
  • Students have progressed to further academic study at PhD level, to roles in education or senior management in imaging departments.

Using our interactive study skills guidance, you will also be able to test your own knowledge and develop additional skills to progress on the course.

  • You will learn key theoretical knowledge and how to apply your skills in a variety of clinical settings through group discussions and seminar work, as well as practical and role play sessions.
  • To develop the essential practice-based and clinical skills, we use observational placement, demonstration, image interpretation and clinical assessments.
  • Research-informed and research-led teaching is strongly embedded in our courses.
  • You will benefit from our unique inter-professional learning experience, taking part in discussions between a wide range of professionals.
  • Service users are involved through role plays, assessments (simulating patients) and delivering lectures, providing valuable opportunities for students to gain insight into patient/client perceptions of practice.
  • Practice Education and Mentorship (30 credits) module accredited by the College of Radiographers (CoR).
