Management of Resources and Quality within Healthcare

This module is designed for healthcare professionals undertaking professional and managerial tasks. The module can be taken as an optional module for any pathway. The module focuses on making effective use of resources; adding value to personal and organisational effectiveness in order for quality of service to be achieved. The module aims to raise awareness of key concepts and associated theories that can be applied in order to manage people, co-ordinate streams of activity and achieve quality outcome measures. The module explores a range of contemporary issues and highlights the impact of these on the provision of service to the clients. The assessment utilises Problem Based Learning and encourages students to consider practical solutions in the context of practice which are complex and multifaceted in nature.

Learning outcomes:  

  • Critically evaluate key theories, concepts and practices associated with the management of resources, organisation effectiveness and personal development
  • Critically explore and debate clinical governance arrangements in current practice and issues associated with the provision of quality service and patient care;
  • Critically appraise the personal attributes, roles and responsibilities expected for effective management, and debate how these influence working relationships, the quality of professional service and care
  • Critically discuss appropriate strategies that foster innovative change, effective professional relationships and maintain equitable service delivery and access to health care
  • Critically analyse working practices, utilising theorised perspectives in order to overcome problems and rationalise appropriate course of action

All healthcare professionals undertaking professional and/or management tasks within a healthcare environment.

Entry criteria:  

Registration as a healthcare professional and a relevant degree/diploma in a healthcare profession.

Number of credits and level of study:   30 credits at level 7.

Assessment:   Presentation and Written Report

Location:   Kingston University & St George's, University of London

Pattern of Delivery:   5 days of classroom teaching followed by self direct learning
