Biography

Rick is a registered social worker with over 10 years' experience of statutory social work, mainly in child protection and with looked after children. He teaches across a range of modules in pre- and post-qualifying courses, including human development, applied social work practice, and social pedagogy. Rick's research interests lie in the application of systems ideas to people-centred services, particularly in relation to children and families. He is currently leading on a Nuffield-funded study exploring the link between system conditions and welfare inequalities in children's social care. His book on complexity in social work was published by Sage in 2018.
